I didn't truly discover how essential sleep manner is until I went back to play PS3. I've get so complacent nigh it now.

How awful it is to not exist able to put the panel on slumber and restart from your exact spot whenever you lot go to play? That's what happens on PS3 and it really makes me not want to go back and play equally much as on PS4. Information technology is and so crucial a QOL characteristic.

Having to kicking the whole console from scratch and boot up a game from scratch, going through loading screens and unskippable logos.

I'thousand actually quite surprised it didn't be in the PS3 gen, considering the portables had it dorsum then? I guess the hardware wasn't skilful enough yet? Or was it just a characteristic they didn't consider back then? Seems such a blind miss if power wasn't an issue.

Forget the social stuff, forget online, forget the recording/screenshotting, forget remote play and switching.

Sleep style is the best feature of this gen.

Love the username.

It'due south squeamish, but not every bit much if you live in a firm where more than ane person uses the console.

Information technology'south nice on the ps4 but it's like a slept computer and it takes merely that second or two to wake upwardly. The switch is like a telephone tho and merely flicks on and off i love it.

I love it. I got a PS4 recently after just owning an Xbox One and was really impressed with how much quicker and meliorate information technology is on PlayStation too. Similar, 5 seconds from pressing the button and you are back in business.

Aw the logos had its charm during the PS1/PS2 eras. Only I agree, it's such a expert feature and very piece of cake to have information technology for granted.

I'yard extremely impressed with how this works on Switch. It barely uses any retention, and I recently I put Xenoblade two on sleep mode in the middle of a battle, and then x hours later I plow on the Switch expecting to have to reboot the game but information technology instantly boots me up and the game is ready to become. It'due south faster than on PS4 even.

Information technology's pretty crap for me. I would take loved it if it actually did download updates of the games I play regularly, similar bf1 and its big updates etc.

I take got it setup in settings to download updates when sleeping simply information technology doesn't. I'll try it again for the upcoming bf1 patch.

I've honestly never used it.

Feel similar I'm missing out.

Meh, I ability downwards all my consoles and PC when not in use. The few seconds to boot is never an issue and system/game updates when I start don't carp me either. I'chiliad a very patient man.

Love it, i as well went back onto the ps3 to play KH Hard disk. Didn't realise how much i liked it until I couldn't utilize it anymore. Specially knowing i had to restart the end bosses, as I was doing them on proud fashion and turned my ps3 off, in the middle of the 4 bosses, or however many there are once more.

Agreed. My PS4 is always on standby
  • #21
yeah this has been a slap-up feature on Switch. it's so like shooting fish in a barrel to merely wake it upwardly and get right back into the game and then pop back out.

Honestly, that'due south one of the biggest issues I have with the PS3 - particularly since some of the games I want to play use save points, and I really don't like that mechanic (non fun losing progress because someone else wants to use the Television and you're away from a save point). Being able to just tell the system to sleep is super handy, and it's ane of the biggest reasons I've moved towards portable gaming wherever possible. The convenience of existence able to press a button and end playing, only to selection up right where y'all were is something extremely helpful.
I'm extremely impressed with how this works on Switch. It barely uses whatever memory, and I recently I put Xenoblade 2 on sleep mode in the centre of a battle, and then x hours afterwards I plough on the Switch expecting to have to reboot the game merely it instantly boots me up and the game is ready to go. It'south faster than on PS4 even.

Yeah IMO the Switch does it best. The PS4 implementation is quite good, mind you, but (similar with it'southward screen capture) it'south not equally fast or seamless.

I'd personally give a shoutout to screen cap buttons being the best feature. When I played on PC I'd always have framecounter + screen cap software running (fraps, and then Shadowplay), and while I don't miss the framecounter, having the ability to have pics of pretty, funny, or interesting scenes is really overnice. I constantly accept pics when ingame. Again, the Switch does this excellently, being most instant. I do love using it on the PS4 though - just wish information technology was faster.

The only negative about slumber style is I've found it makes me hesitant to play multiple games at the aforementioned time. I stop up staying in ane game until I finish because I don't want to switch and go through all the loading. And when I practice switch it'southward hard to go back to the game I was playing.

So games where your are intended to maybe play a few minutes each day like Stardew or Minecraft I find myself hesitant to really go into because I don't want to end my already loaded upwardly session on this other game.

I like the characteristic, I just wish game updates were more consistent. Sometimes updates will download, other times the download doesn't first until I turn on the system.

I love information technology on the Switch..As for my Pro/X its super striking or miss If they carp updating software while in sleep style. Deceit stand up booting upward Gears, and being greeted with its massive update installs lol.

It's unreal on the Switch. Absolutely love it.
Meh, I power downward all my consoles and PC when not in apply. The few seconds to boot is never an issue and system/game updates when I starting time don't carp me either. I'k a very patient man.

Video and Screenshot sharing.

My effect with putting the PS4 in residue style is the fact that information technology tends to turn back on when my TV randomly decides to default dorsum to HDMI ane after i stopped watching Netflix or something on my AppleTV.

I guess i could turn that feature off, just that'd mean that turning on the PS4 on the controller wouldn't switch to HDMI 1.

(cmiiw here)

Video and Screenshot sharing.

Hands downward.

It's so weird that the Switch - the weakest console and latest to the political party - is the best at taking and sharing screenshots.
Taking a Screenshot on PS4 and uploading it to twitter takes then many more steps than information technology does on the Switch. Similarly, taking multiple screenshots in quick succession is so much easier on the Switch, besides.

the Vita showed u.s.a. the way

it is a great feature. I have actually surprised a few PC-simply friends showing them how fast you can get back into something like Horizon on Rest mode.

Steam even so takes ages to load if it hadn't on kicking, even on a Sammy SSD

  • #36
I love information technology, though I'm less than impressed with it on the Xbox 1, detect the PS4 ane to be a bit also slow for my liking, and extremely impressed with how quick and rapid information technology is on the Switch.

Eh, non really. The GBA, DS, and PSP all had Slumber Modes before Vita and 3DS (and ultimately, PS4, Xbox Ane, and Switch).

Information technology is a godsend with two kids under four.

Only annoyance with information technology is near online games that crave persistent server connectedness don't really do good (Destiny two, for instance).

Yep sleep way is a "how did nosotros ever live without this" tier feature. It'south been peachy on handhelds for a while now. The Vita'southward is the best because the system can completely run out of power and information technology will still go along the game land suspended. Does the Switch do that?

Yeah, but a couple of seconds is miles better than having to wait literally multiple minutes before yous tin can play considering y'all accept to sit through programmer start upwardly logos and initial loading times. Witcher 3 was the worst offender to me personally so far and append/resume was a fantastic feature when playing information technology.

I'm also impressed at how it works on ports of old games - I've paused my PS4 for 2 or 3 days and FF7 and Kingdom Hearts work just fine.

That'due south awesome. I oasis't let my Switch die yet but information technology's squeamish to know it'south there.
  • #46
The Switch sleep style is so good!
Also docking the affair and immediatly going to your hdmi output on television receiver is neat also.

It'due south and so well incorperated into the system, only with Sonic Mania when information technology eorked sloppy there is that i noticed how good the sleep mode characteristic actually is.

I'one thousand only using information technology with the Switch, it feels like 2d nature to me, but never used it with 3DS/Ps4, maybe I'll try information technology.
With the Switch is actually practiced, but some games (XC2) can continue counting (information technology's a issues) the fourth dimension you're on standby equally play fourth dimension.

I completely agree. I literally do non think how I used to part without information technology. It'southward such an essential feature for me now that enables much more seamless gaming than I was ever capable of earlier. People always call up I'm exaggerating or joking when I say this but I'k non. It's that valuable to me.

Information technology was the first "nextgen" feature of my PS4.
